Trip Overview
If you've been dreaming of a ski adventure that includes beautiful descents, vast glaciers, and relaxation in a classic alpine setting at the end of each day, look no further! Our Swiss Berner Oberland hut-to-hut ski tours include 6 days of guided big mountain touring intertwined with cozy nights and delicious meals in wardened mountain huts. We begin our tour in the town of Grindelwald, taking the iconic train ride up to the Jungfraujoch - the highest railway station in Europe! Once out on the glacier, we gear up and ascend to our first hut, where we practice crevasse rescue and settle into the high altitude. Traveling through the World Heritage Site of the Aletsch Glacier, the biggest glacier in Switzerland, we opt for smaller or bigger ski days as we make our way to the next hut on our traverse. Each hut has their unique charm and amazing views, and after completing our 6-day traverse, we will exit via a 4,000 ft ski descent into the Valais valley. There, we'll reflect on our amazing journey together and say our farewells.
The Hut Scene
There's nothing quite like a Swiss mountain hut experience. When you arrive, you can step out of your skis and boots, put on the provided comfortable hut slippers, and put your feet up, knowing that a relaxing evening at the hut is your reward for a big day out shredding. You'll be summoned inside for a communal dinner with the other guests, where you'll meet and connect with skiers from all over the world and share your stories and experiences. Once satiated, you'll head up to bed, which is in shared dormitory style. With a good night's rest, you'll wake up refreshed, grab some breakfast and homemade hut tea, and head back out for another amazing day of skiing in some big terrain.
Logistics
We will meet in either Interlaken or Grindelwald the day before the trip begins for a gear check, introductions, and to discuss the details of our itinerary, including weather and snow conditions. Any last minute gear changes can be made then. There are a few rental and ski shops where you can find any last minute items, or even rent equipment, however April is considered shoulder season, so it's worth calling ahead and reserving if you want to rent skis (we recommend bringing your own set though). While food is provided during the hut trip, extra snacks are recommended to supplement the packed lunch provided at each hut. Transportation to and from our meeting / departure locations is easily accessible by train or taxi. The Swiss rail system is quite efficient and modern, and they offer station to station transfer of baggage if needed. Non-ski luggage transfer from your departure hotel (in Interlaken or Grindelwald) to Brig is included, and you will find your luggage waiting for you when we arrive in Brig at the end of our trip. Paying for goods and services can easily be done with credit or bank card or Swiss Francs. The huts accept cash (CHF) or credit card.
