SKI & SAIL NORWAY

Overview

Our 7- day, 7-night Ski & Sail trip in Northern Norway takes us inside the Arctic Circle, where we explore the islands of the Lyngen and Finnmark Alps.

The first day, we'll meet aboard the sailboat that will be our home for the next 7 nights. As we settle into our accommodations, we'll get to know each other and do a thorough gear check. For the next 6 days, we'll adventure through beautiful islands, skiing great lines straight down to the ocean, eating delicious food prepared by our captain and crew, and basking in the Nordic sun while taking in the breathtaking views! Maybe we'll even brave a refreshing and healing Arctic plunge or two, as well as see dolphins and reindeer along the way.

As we return to port on our last evening, we reflect on the amazingly unique experience these mountainous islands have given us, and the next morning we say our farewells as we disembark.

Daily Routine

Each morning we awake to fresh coffee and breakfast, then gather our skis and packs and board the zodiac that delivers us to shore. There, we put our skins on, ascend to summits with striking views, and then choose either open pow runs or exciting couloirs. Back from skiing, we arrive aboard our comfortable ship and enjoy a late lunch. As we relax and enjoy the views from the boat, we then travel to a new destination. Each night we eat divine home cooked meals prepared by the chef, then rest easy in double occupancy rooms. The next day, the adventure continues as we tour on new islands each with unique and exciting terrain.

Logistics

Transport

We all meet at the designated harbor (10 minute taxi ride from the airport), where the boat is docked and waiting for us. After greeting the boat crew and finishing our introductions, a gear check is done and we board the sailboat. The captain leads a tour through the boat and assigns us our double quarters for the week. The boat will be our home as we sail through the Arctic Ocean, until we return back to harbor and say our farewells.

Food

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner is all provided while on board. If you have any special dietary restrictions, please let us know well in advance of the trip. We recommend bringing a few supplemental snacks as well as electrolytes for those big days out on the mountain. Supplemental snacks, as well as alcohol (not included), will need to be bought prior to boarding and are not included.

Currency

Norway uses almost all electronic transactions for purchases, so the best way to pay for things is with credit card. Tips are not included in the cost, and can be paid in either US dollars or Venmo/Paypal or Wise.

Equipment

We send out a comprehensive equipment list prior to the trip. Due to the fact that we will have limited space while on board the boat, we encourage you to only bring one pair of skis and poles, touring pack, and one medium sized duffle with your clothes and miscellaneous items. It is important to note that it is recommended to fly in one day early, so that all our checked gear is guaranteed to arrive by the time we set sail. If you have extra equipment that can be stored off the boat, many hotels in Tromso and Alta offer luggage storage.
